This song is about the frustration that results from not having total control over decisions regarding my own body and living with a part of myself that only causes pain and turmoil. Nearly 6 years ago, I was advised to never get pregnant by my pulmonary doctor. Due to a disease I have and the medication needed to keep me alive, pregnancy is dangerous. As someone who never really imagined having children, I am okay with this. What is frustrating is that it is still nearly impossible for me to have control over my reproductive system even though it only causes me potential harm and monthly misery. I am medically required to be on birth control and have monthly pregnancy tests. Even so, when I explained all of this to my primary care physician and gynecologist, I was met with “You are too young” and “Don’t give up hope” when I asked to have my tubes tied. I continue to advocate for myself and hopefully I will find the right doctor to allow me to have this procedure. I no longer have the choice to get pregnant, but I also do not have the choice to permanently get rid of the potential without being interrogated and patronized. The options I do currently have to prevent pregnancy all come with a slew of negative side effects. Being on the pill made me feel like a different person. We sing about dealing with this person/entity in “Creeping”.

I also would like to note that even if you don’t have a disease that complicates pregnancy, you deserve the same amount of bodily autonomy and personal decision making power without interference from social norms and especially without interference from law makers. All proceeds from this single release on bandcamp will go to The Yellowhammer Fund, which provides funding for anyone seeking care at abortion clinics in Alabama. Also, we will be playing a set on Sunday 7/14 for the Rock for Choice benefit at Koto in Salem, MA. Every $10 cover will be donated to NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts and The ROE Act Coalition.
